While walking in the city centre, it is impossible to not notice the imposing tower of Othon Palace, sitting at the intersection of Avenue Afonso Pena and Rua Da Bahia. Previously, the area was rather conservative. Here, until 1937, inhabitants could stop by Bar do Ponto for a simple coffee. Or not. The bar was known for adding cachaça, the local rum, to the coffee.
