48 Hours in London with Mercure London Hyde Park Hotel

by Melissa Lau

Two days is not nearly long enough to experience London, but if you only have 48 hours in London, here are some pointers to craft your perfect trip while staying at Mercure London Hyde Park Hotel.

London is a big city with limitless options, which is why easy access to public transportation is important in making the most of your time. Mercure London Hyde Park Hotel overlooks a peaceful garden square, that’s only 2 minutes’ walk from Paddington Station and 5 minutes from Lancaster Gate. The Central line is perfect for getting you to all the attractions in London.

Day 1
Traditional English Breakfast

Breakfast is often described as the most important meal of the day, and the proper way to kickstart your London experience is with a traditional English breakfast at Mercure Hyde Park’s adjacent London Brasserie. They serve fresh coffee, juice, traditional and vegetarian options accompanied by a breakfast buffet of condiments and sides.

Hyde Park

After breakfast, it’s nice to go for a leisurely stroll and enjoy London’s beautiful nature. Mercure Hyde Park is located next to this famous park, which is one of the largest in London! You can spend a whole day at Hyde Park if you wanted.

In the middle of the park is the Serpentine Lake, which takes its name from its snakelike shape, although it only has one bend. Boat, pedalos and lawn chairs can be rented for you to experience the lake how you want.

Nearby is the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, a suitable tribute to The People's Princess. If you’re visiting with kids, they will love the nearby playground and ice cream vendor as well. During the summer, multiple events and concerts are also held in Hyde Park.

Notting Hill

Perhaps you have heard of this neighbourhood from the famous movie with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. Rightfully so, because this charming vibrant area is a great place to explore and shop. You can walk to Notting Hill in 20 minutes from Mercure Hyde Park. Famed for its markets selling antiques and vintage fashion, Portobello Road Market is lined with stalls everyday except Sunday, with Saturday being the liveliest day. Just off Portobello Road at the corner with Cambridge Gardens, there is a variety of food stalls serving delicious food.
Fish N’ Chips

You started the day off with a traditional English breakfast, so why not end it with fish and chips? There is nothing more British than freshly cooked fish and chips, smothered in salt and soused with vinegar. There are many pubs within walking distance from Mercure Hyde Park, but if you want to venture out, Covent Garden, Camden, Dalston, Marylebone, Peckham, Islington, Seven Dials and Soho are all great areas for a delicious dinner and evening of ex-ploring.

Day 2

Main Sights and Attractions

Now that you’ve relaxed and experienced some of the attractions near Mer-cure Hyde Park, be sure to venture out to London’s main famous highlights: London Eye, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. They are all easily accessible by public transport near Mercure Hyde Park.
Shopping

If you’re a shopper, then be sure to visit Oxford Street, which is only a 20 minute walk from Mercure Hyde Park.  Other popular shopping spots, accessible by public transportation, is the King’s Road, Carnaby Street, Westminster Borough and Regent’s Street.
