MOVIE MAGIC…AND HISTORY
Leeds
Headingly
One of the oldest movie theatres in the country, Cottage Road Cinema started life as a motor garage for a mansion in nearby Headingley. In 1912, it was re-born as Headingley Picture House and has been showing films continuously ever since. The first ever moving images were shot by Louis le Prince on nearby Leeds Bridge in 1888. With that in mind, this nostalgic cinema is the perfect place to pay homage to the city’s film-making history. Grab a bag of toffee popcorn, settle into one of 450 plush seats, and wait for the vintage curtains to open. While the digital projection and surround sound are state-of-the-art, Cottage Road Cinema retains its atmosphere of classic sophistication.
