Back to nature
Can you imagine the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben or the Statue of Liberty disappearing overnight? This is what happened in Malta in 2017 when a severe storm swept an iconic landmark, the Azure Window (also known as the Malta Arch), from the landscape of Dwejira Bay in Malta. Among the natural sights to see on the island of Gozo, this awe-inspiring limestone arch was a favourite for locals and visitors, so the news was somewhat tragic. It fulfilled the worst predictions of geologists who had been warning for years that something like this could happen. The photogenic Azure Window on the island of Gozo was swallowed up by the sea with a deafening roar, but the hopes of the Maltese did not go down with it. Years later, the island found a replacement to match its predecessor: the Wied il-Mielah Window. Visit the corners that make Gozo such a special island!
