Myths & Legends
One of the traditions of Malta that surprises visitors is the lack of synchronisation between the clocks in the churches on the island. Does one of the clocks have the correct time? Yes, one clock has the correct time, but it's best not to talk about it too much in case the Devil catches on to the deception. The deep religious tradition of the island of Malta often intersects with superstition. So much so that each of the island's 365 churches has two clocks, one that tells the time correctly and one that doesn't. The reason? This bit of architectural trickery would serve to confuse evil forces with the time of mass. If the Devil doesn't know what time it really is, he won't be able to interfere with religious services. For the visitors, remember that the correct time is always the clock on the right, while the left one only serves to prevent the theft of souls in the temples.
