53 New Walk

Pablo Picasso delved into clay and kiln during the latter half of his life, and art lovers travelled to his studio in France to purchase the ceramics. One of his fans was Richard Attenborough, the late British actor and director perhaps best known for his portrayal of the over-confident billionaire in Jurassic Park. After five decades of annual summer holidays to Provence, his beloved collection grew to around 150 pieces. Attenborough actually met Picasso, but the artist refused to sign autographs for men. So he called over his wife, Sheila, who was much more warmly received! In 2007, the Attenboroughs donated the collection to the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, allowing you to experience their passion for yourself.
