Discover Authentic Rimini: A Local Travel Guide by Mercure

At Mercure, we believe you shouldn't need a guidebook to feel like you belong somewhere. That's the idea behind Discover Local: since 1973, every Mercure hotel has been built around its neighbourhood, not just dropped into it — from the décor on the walls to the flavours on the menu. Step into any Mercure and our teams are on hand with the kind of tips you won't find in a guidebook: the market stall locals queue for, the bar where nobody speaks English, the walk that skips the crowds. They live here. They know. Discover Local isn't a generic city guide — it's a short, honest list of the restaurants, markets and neighbourhoods our own hotel teams actually recommend to guests, updated as the city changes around us. Below, you'll find our picks for Rimini, an interactive map to help you find your way, and answers to the questions travellers ask us most. So — where will Discover Local take you?

Our map pins local favourites such as the Arch of Augustus, Borgo San Giuliano and the Parco del Mare, alongside our Mercure hotel.

Top 5 Things to Do in Rimini

Borgo San Giuliano

This former fishermen's quarter across the Ponte di Tiberio is now a maze of pastel houses and murals paying tribute to Federico Fellini, who grew up nearby. Wander it slowly in the late afternoon when the light hits the colored facades and the neighborhood's small trattorias start setting out their outdoor tables.

Tempio Malatestiano

Commissioned by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta and designed by Leon Battista Alberti, this Renaissance church reads more like a monument to its patron's ego than a conventional place of worship, marble-clad, unfinished on one side, genuinely unlike anything else in the region. Entry is free, and it takes about 20 minutes to see properly.

Roman Forum and Arch of Augustus

Rimini's Roman roots show clearly here: the Arch of Augustus, from 27 BC, marks the old entrance to the city, and the excavated forum nearby gives a sense of scale most visitors don't expect from a beach town. Both are free to view and sit right along the walk between the old town and Borgo San Giuliano.

Piadina from a proper piadineria

The flatbread wrap, filled with squacquerone cheese and arugula, or prosciutto, or anchovies, is Romagna's answer to a sandwich, cooked to order on a hot griddle and folded while it's still warm. A good one costs around €4-6 and is meant to be eaten walking, not plated at a table.

The lungomare bike path

A dedicated bike and pedestrian path runs the length of Rimini's beach, past the rows of stabilimenti (private beach clubs) with their color-coded umbrellas. Renting a bike for a couple of hours, around €10-15, is the easiest way to cover the full stretch without the midday sun wearing you down.
