Salisbury

Charter Market, Salisbury Market Place

Charter Market, every Tuesday and Saturday, has a huge range of stalls offering clothes, flowers and collectibles, along with fresh produce from local farmers. While you’re there, take a moment to look at the statue of Henry Fawcett. You’ll notice that the information on the plaque is in braille as well as English. Blinded in an accident when he was 25, Fawcett went on to become a Cambridge professor, a Member of Parliament and eventually, in 1880, Postmaster General. If you haven’t heard of Henry, you may know his wife – Millicent was a prominent suffragist and campaigner for women’s rights.
