The Farne Islands are a group of 28 islands off the Northumberland coast, home to thousands of seabirds and one of the world’s largest grey seal colonies. A boat tour includes a stop at one of the islands to give you an up-close look at the birds. Why not combine a visit to imposing Bamburgh Castle, perched above the North Sea, with some traditional fish and chips in the seaside village of Seahouses? Just a short way up the coast is the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, said to be the cradle of English Christianity.
