NAKED BATHERS

Edinburgh

Water of Leith, Edinburgh

Looking for calm in Edinburgh? There is nothing better than strolling along the banks of the Water of the Leith River. Here, fishermen cast their lines for pike and two bathers stand in the river… morning, noon and night! These cast iron figures can be credited to the artist Antony Gormley. The bathers face in the same direction; their gaze follows the road to Leith, where a third, similar statue stands on an abandoned pier, looking at the ocean. The message behind this surprising trio states “The freedom to look towards an endless horizon”. Let yourself be seduced by the “endless horizon”, and if you feel up for it, try and find the other three statues hidden across the city.
