A WALK THROUGH AVIATION HISTORY

Coventry

Rowley Road, Baginton

The main hangar of the Midland Air Museum is suitably named after Sir Frank Whittle, a Coventry native credited with inventing the modern turbojet engine. Like to take a trip through aviation history? Get up close to a MiG-21, the Russian-designed supersonic jet that was the most mass-produced fighter during the Cold War. Admire an Avro Vulcan, the Royal Air Force’s answer to the MiG. The high-altitude bomber was designed to carry nuclear missiles as deterrents in the same chilled conflict. And while you won’t see it fly, you can get a good idea of the Sea Harrier’s stunning ability to do vertical takeoffs and landings.
