The Corn Exchange, Corn Street
The clock mounted over the entrance of the Exchange in Corn Street, in the heart of Bristol’s historic commercial quarter, is famous for its three hands: the little hand, the big hand … and the other big hand! The big hands show the time in minutes, one of them Greenwich Mean Time and one of them Bristol Time – a reminder that before GMT was adopted in 1880, local time based on solar time was the official time. So, depending on who you ask, you may have to add or subtract ten and a half-ish minutes to know the ‘real’ time.
