Caffè Canova-Tadolini - Via del Babuino, 150/A-B, 00187

Antonio Canova, the sculptor of Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss and Paolina Borghese as Venus Victrix, had his atelier at the corner of Via del Babuino and Via dei Greci, an area of Rome chosen by numerous artists for their studios. The space with its bright-colored walls and exposed ceiling beams hosted apprentices and models, and protected the preparatory sketches, the studies, and the rough marble blocks that would’ve become masterpieces one day. Near the end of his career, Canova selected Adamo Tadolini among his favorite apprentices and left him the atelier, that honored its name for the following four generations. Today you can still find the sculptures, the maquettes, and the tools filling the rooms that have remained exactly as they were in the 1800s, aside from the coffee tables greeting the guests of the Canova-Tadolini café.
