Convento di Trinità de' Monti - Piazza della Trinità dei Monti

The Spanish Steps are one of the wonders of the Eternal City, and hide a secret just at their summit. In the convent founded by Francesco di Paola in 1494, a shining chest beside the church with two belltowers contains two fascinating anamorphoses by Emmanuel Maignan and Jean-François Nicéron. Around the mid-1600s, the two Minims created and painted two murals still shrouded in mystery to this day. Based on where you observe the walls of the first floor from, a bay turns into the figure of Francesco di Paola praying, while Saint John writing the Apocalypse alternates with a landscape of the island of Patmos, where the saint is said to have had a vision of Christ. Come witness a few surprising visions yourself in a guided tour of the Convent.
