The fans of Verdi are unlikely so few. Nonetheless, the Club dei 27 is most likely the smallest fan club dedicated to the Maestro of Busseto (his small native town in the province of Parma).
The club was born in Parma, in the Bar Grotta (“cave bar”) next to the Teatro Regio theater, a hangout spot for the music lovers, that debated on singers and opera. The headquarters have changed, the club has introduced competitions and other activities for the promotion of the Maestro’s compositions, but the number of members has remained untouched. It represents the number of operas written by Verdi. In fact each member choses an opera- based on availability- and must care for its preservation until giving up his membership to the club. Nowadays the club is still in a cave-like location, but it is the Casa della Musica. How can you resist the temptation of meeting Rigoletto and Otello?
