Parma

Bodoni Museum - Strada alla Pilotta 3

The Bodoni Museum isn’t dedicated to an author or a simple artisan, but a true artist of writing as a whole. The museum named after the typographer – who was born next to Turin but spent most of his life in Parma – stands in what was once the Royal Press, of which Giambattista Bodoni was the director. As well as publications, a printing press and other tools, over 25 thousand movable types, the parallelepipeds with engraved characters used for the presses, are the testimony of Bodoni’s immense research and production. If even Napoleon came to Parma to admire Bodoni’s work, then be sure the museum is a real jewel to visit.
