There are probably as many stories about Bordeaux’s superb Pont de Pierre as there are arches in that bridge: the bridge was built during the 19th century during the Bourbon Restoration on the orders of Napoléon Bonaparte; the construction of the bridge was nearly abandoned; for lack of funds, there are 17 arches instead of the originally planned 19. All that may well be true. But what few people know is that the bridge is hollow and the inside can even be toured on the rare occasion. However, you will have to find the entrance yourself!
