Yangon

Pansodan Street

World Explorers
Yangon is one of the most well preserved colonial cities in Southeast Asia, and Pansodan Street is where you can still see beautiful colonial architecture. Along the downtown street you will find many residential houses, shop houses, offices and government buildings in colonial style, including the Telegraph Office, High Court Building, Rander House, and Port Authority Office. If you are unsure where to start, drop by Yangon Heritage Trust – this local NGO offers free walking tours of the neighborhood which includes the legendary The Strand hotel, built by the Sarkies brothers who were also behind the Raffles in Singapore. While you’re here, take the chance to browse the secondhand bookstalls (with many books in English) that dot the pavements to delve deeper into the city’s history. If rare books are what you’re after, come early after sunrise for first pick.
