A COUNTRY PUB WITH A HISTORY

Staines

The Harrow, 142 Charlton Road, Charlton Village

The Harrow is a delightful old thatched-roof country pub with a history that’s shrouded in mystery. It’s thought to date from the 16th century, but a cache of silver coins found beneath a door frame suggests it could go back even further. Theories about its original function also abound. Perhaps it was a gatehouse for Windsor Great Park, a hunting lodge, a retreat for the clergy – or a simple farmhouse. The first drinks were served in 1852. Today, you can enjoy a huge range of ales – as well as wines and great pub food – in the cosy bar, with an open fire, or in the quiet beer garden.
