Peebles

Mercure Peebles Barony Spa, Old Manse Road

Once a tower house dating from the 16th century, Mercure Peebles Barony Spa is an attraction in itself. While you’re here, make sure you allow time to explore the 25 acres of countryside surrounding the hotel. The land was granted to the baronets Murray by James VI in recognition of their support of colonists in Nova Scotia. You can also get an aerial view of the whole of Scotland – without leaving the hotel! The Polish Map of Scotland is a giant 3D topographic map, built by Polish officers as a thank-you gift for the Scots’ hospitality during WWII, when the house was a Polish military college. Just take the steps up to the viewing platform for a bird’s-eye view of Scotland’s mountains and glens, lochs and islands.
