Cardiff

Lake Road East

Roath Park has been offering nature retreats in the city of Cardiff since 1894. In classic Victorian style, the park was built on marshland once ominously deemed a "malarial bog." Rest assured, it’s pleasantly parasite free today. What’s the attraction? The lake is a big one. Take a rowboat on a romantic glide across the water, as visitors have done for over a century. One of Cardiff's most iconic images, a lighthouse rises from the surface in commemoration of an ill-fated Antarctic expedition that sailed from the city in 1910. Then there are gardens galore. While wandering through the glasshouse, keep an eye out for one of the resident green water dragons often seen sneaking about the plants.
