If the name of The Clog & Billycock Inn strikes you as odd, that’s because it surely is. And why does the venerable village pub proudly display these seemingly unrelated items on its sign? It’s a nod to the preferred attire of a previous landlord. The billycock seems reasonable. Better known as a bowler, the hat was a mainstay of the British business class in the mid-20th century. The eccentric proprietor's affection for infamously uncomfortable clogs, however, is unexplained. So, wrench on your wooden shoes, tilt your billycock to a rakish slant and amble in for a cask ale and a bite of traditional fish pie.
