One can’t help but noticing the balconies hanging over the Leno river: they are closed by the mashrabiyas, sun-blocking windows decorated with oriental motifs.
The Casa dei Turchi (house of the Turks) – a small part of a distant world that like the nearby Ponte Forbato bridge belongs to the history of Rovereto – was once mainly inhabited by Arab families, specialized in sewing silk.
When the men were not home, the women could still look out the window because – thanks to the guards made of perforated wood – they didn’t risk being watched by prying eyes.
