Rimini

Faro di Rimini - Via Destra del Porto

Born to also be a lookout point to alert of enemy attacks, the lighthouse built by Luigi Vanvitelli in 1700 was built where there once was a section of the delta of the Marecchia River. Before entering the light room – once hosting an oil lamp, now an electric-powered equivalent – there is a collection of materials and stories related to lighthouses. Then, from the first floor windows, you may admire the city, the hillside, Mount Titan (on which San Marino rests), and the harbor. Where there once was the room for the lighthouse keeper – the man who monitored the flame so that it would never die down – now there is the engine house, and walking up the steep stairs, you will reach the light room. Light, and only water for miles and miles.
