Who was Alessandro Gambalunga, the person whom the public library of Rimini is named after? He was the owner of the building containing the library and many of the ancient books still preserved on its shelves. Of noble origins, but never accepted by the local aristocracy, Gambalunga was a scholar who spent lots of time with intellectuals, and throughout his life collected more than 2,000 law books, Latin texts, and works by Italian authors. In honor of his great passion for culture, the man decided that, upon his death, his books and the entire building would be donated to the people of Rimini, as well as a sum of money destined to pay salary for a librarian. And so the Gambalunga household turned into a library: a living testament.
