Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta - Via Gioacchino Rossini 56

To be precise, there are almost 900 m2 (nearly 250 acres) of tiles in the mosaic in the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary), and the discovery of such jewel was a shear coincidence.
It was the late 1800s when a restoration job on the entire construction, including the 3rd-century Romanesque façade, was required. The operations brought to life a double floor formed by little tiles extending along the entire church length! Overlaid one over the other, the two mosaics belong to the two previous basilicas: the one built in the 4th century, and the one built in the second half of the 6th century.
Not one, but two treasures about 7 centuries long lay under the feet of the people of Pesaro.
