Palazzo della Cuba - Corso Calatafimi 100

Palazzo della Cuba is an Arab-Norman style building in Palermo which has nothing to do with the Caribbean island. It is also known as Petticoat Cuba (Sottana) to distinguish it from Cuba Soprana and Cuba Piccola. It has its name from the Arab term which means cupola, the part that is built to embellish the hall in the centre of the mighty four towers. The castle built at the end of 1100 was a royal palace where Kinf Guglielmo II and his entourage spent hours of relaxation, enjoyed the outdoors and organised parties. Boccaccio also could not resist the garden and the fountains of the palace and one of his novellas from the Decameron is set in the Cuba.
