Bergamo is not far from Milan, but much more similar to Rome in its characteristics and territory. A old saying, of course in the local dialect, goes: “If Bergamo weren’t on the hills, it’d be better than Milan”. The regional capital of Lombardy is just a few miles away and everyone there knows that there’s a “cat-and-dog” history between the two. The first old saying reveals a secret, and to reveal it we must virtually shift, in fact, to Rome.
