FUNICULÌ FUNICULÀ CABLE RAILWAY

Funicolare San Vigilio - Largo porta Sant'Alessandro
No one will forbid you from singing the “Funiculì funiculà” song in Neapolitan as you are ascending to high Bergamo.
Although the song is dedicated to the installation of Neapolitan transport, Bergamo city also has a cable railway which made its maiden voyage in 1887, eight years after the one in Naples.
The Bergamasque installation is divided into two lines. After the first climb up which from Città Bassa leads to Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe, proceed with the second cable railway which takes you to San Vigilio hill, a virtually unknown part of Bergamo immersed in greenery protected by the Parco dei Colli.
