Toulouse

Jardin Compans Caffareli - Boulevard Lascrosse

The 'pink city' is famous for more than just the rosy bricks adorning its buildings. Toulouse is also known for Carlos Gardel, the legendary tango singer who was born here in 1890 and whose remarkable voice was declared worthy of UNESCO world heritage status. Fiercely proud of their local ‘child prodigy’, the people of Toulouse continue to pay homage to Gardel to this day. If you don’t manage to attend the annual Tangopostale festival at the end of June, you can get closer to the mythical French-Argentine tango figure in many other spots around the city. Try a stroll through the Jardin Compans Caffarelli, where you'll find his bust on a monument commemorating his legend. Or explore the arches of the Place du Capitole, home to a portrait of Gardel painted by Raymond Moretti.
