Located on the island of Grand Bé, Chateaubriand's tomb is within walking distance of Bon Secours Beach. This walk, charming at low tide, can turn into a nightmare during high tides, when the sea reclaims the sandy ground in less than 10 minutes. Hugo Besnier, a local baker, spent six years as a volunteer rescuer, abandoning loaves and croissants to sound the alarm when needed. Locals still see him as their alarm bell, even though Besnier has since hung up his megaphone.
