Le grand Bé

Located on the island of Grand Bé, Chateaubriand's tomb is within walking distance of Bon Secours Beach. This walk, charming at low tide, can turn into a nightmare during high tides, when the sea reclaims the sandy ground in less than 10 minutes. Hugo Besnier, a local baker, spent six years as a volunteer rescuer, abandoning loaves and croissants to sound the alarm when needed. Locals still see him as their alarm bell, even though Besnier has since hung up his megaphone. So, before setting off to visit the viscount's tomb, be sure to carefully consult the tidal coefficients and tide charts!
