THE GENIUS BEHIND THE MUSIC

Rambouillet

1 Place de la Libération

Relays du Château teems with history. The building was originally a post office, then a cafe, and then a hostel before becoming the hotel it is today. It’s said that Ernest Hemingway spent the night before the Liberation here. But that’s not all. The hotel frequently hosted one of the greatest composers who ever lived. Who is it? To find out, go to its restaurant, Le Boléro – yes, just like the name of the riveting orchestral piece. More than just a nod to classical music, this is a real tribute to the composer himself, as Maurice Ravel lived nearby. It’s said that on Sundays, he liked to walk in the forest of Rambouillet and then come to the hotel to relax. According to legend, it may have been here that he wrote some sections of his famous Boléro. Bravo, maestro!
