Passage Pommeraye

Passage Pommeraye is not only one of the most beautiful galleries in Europe; it also changed the fate of director Jacques Demy. It was in one of these shops that he traded his model of a transporter bridge for his first Pathé-Baby camera. It was also here, in his debut film (Lola), that Anouk Aimée met – and later spurns – Marc Michel. Twenty years later, for Une Chambre en Ville, Demy returned there to film Dominique Sanda as she walked down the steps of the central staircase, naked under her fur coat. In La Reine Blanche, Jean-Loup Hubert – another Nantes filmmaker – made Passage Pommeraye the setting for a chase scene between Catherine Deneuve and Bernard Giraudeau. Built on three levels, this shopping arcade seems to be the ideal playground for lovers' dramas and rendezvous.
