In Amiens, the star of the show is the gorgeous cathedral. Built in the Middle Ages, the building was given a makeover in the 19th century. The work was supervised by famous architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Famous? Perhaps you have never heard of him. Think of Notre Dame de Paris. He restored that cathedral, too. The master stonemason was clearly fond of a little joke. On the façade of the cathedral in Amiens, he carved a little surprise for those with a sharp eye. Look closely at the space between the central and left doorways, just below the statue of Prophet Nahum. See it? It’s his own face!
