Manshiyat Nase

In Cairo's largest informal settlement, Manshiyat Naser, also home to the Egyptian Christian-Coptic population, is a massive, colorful street art mural created by French-Tunisian calligraffiti artist eL Seed. The artist’s pseudo-name was inspired by ‘Le Cid’, a five-act play written by French dramatist, Pierre Corneille in 1636, and just like Corneille, eL Seed ‘supports humanist values, sowing seeds of tolerance, poetry and peace’. This unique mural labeled, 'Perception,' is painted over scores of buildings to form one single piece of art when viewed from a vantage point. The beautiful mural which is fashioned through eL Seed’s unique technique of merging calligraphy and graffiti, known as calligraffiti, reads, “Anyone who wants to see the sunlight clearly needs to wipe his eye first”.
