Contrary to common belief, the best spot for seeing St. Peter’s Basilica is not from the square in front of it, but from the small, anonymous Via dei Piccolomini 5 kilometres away. This unassuming street offers an impressive view of the Basilica’s dome, matched with a strange optical illusion: the farther you are, the bigger and better the view. Odd?
