The Flinders Street Railway Station and its neo-Gothic architecture with south Asian accents begs the question, why such a style for an Australian train station? Because the plans for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, India, and those for Flinders Street were supposedly switched during a boat crossing! An alluring story, but doubts remain. In fact, the two buildings do have confirmed paternities. The architecture firm Fawcett and Ashworth designed the Flinders Street Station and Frederick Williams Stevens designed Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
