SLOW DOWN AND SMELL THE TREES

Bangkok

Lumpini Park

Back to nature
It’s time to slow down. You are in Bangkok, after all. Just as London has Hyde Park and New York City has Central Park, the Thai capital city is also home to an inner-city sanctuary.

In the mornings, urban dwellers from all walks of life can be seen enjoying the 142-acre parkland. Tai Chi practitioners gather to practice their considered moves under the shade of trees. Old men huddle over traditional board games while enjoying their tea. Office folk squeeze in a jog in before the work day starts. There’s also swan paddle boats to be enjoyed, a new children’s library, and plenty of space for a picnic with snacks bought inside the park.

Bicycle times at Lumpini Park is limited though, but luckily it connects via an almost-secret 1.5km elevated bike and pedestrian lane to another downtown park (Benjakitti Park) where you can bike from park opening to closing. Lumpini Park, Bangkok.
