Myths & Legends
The Architectural Wonder of Hyderabad, Golconda fort, a short drive from Mercure Hyderabad KCP, will surprise you with its ancient engineering and exchange of technology much before broad band, Internet & computers made this possible. Try whispering on the Walls and see what happens. Golconda or “Golla Konda” (Shepherd’s hill) was built by Hindu Kakatiya King during 13th Century and was ruled later by the most powerful Muslim Sultanate Qutub Shahi Kingdom, which was a centre of flourishing diamond trade. This story is about the brilliant acoustics built in the fort. Imagine almost 1,000 years ago with no technology around, they designed an engineering marvel where sound travelled through walls and not wires. You might rightly call it as the first telephone or Wi-Fi. Many inner Walls literally have Ears. Whisper in one corner of the hall, and you can be heard distinctly in another. No one else can hear what you are saying. This was done for two reasons. To check the loyalty of his ministers, the walls enabled the king to secretly hear the communication amongst them, secondly it enabled people to petition the king in private without risk to his security. It’s a place worth a visit as it will take you to a different world altogether with technologies that will make you question the existence of modern science.
