THE SACRED TAYRONA STONE

Santa Marta

Bonda Village, about 6 miles from Santa Marta

Before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, the Tayrona were the only inhabitants of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. A vestige of Tayrona civilization still stands in the jungle surrounding the village. At this mystical site an immense 4-meter-wide stone rises 3 meters into the air and is carved with strange inscriptions. According to the few researchers who have studied the stone, the hieroglyphs might describe Tayrona civilization, detailing the people’s laws, which were grounded in respect for nature, peaceful coexistence between men, and total harmony with Mother Earth. Champollion deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphics, perhaps you will do the same for the language of the Tayronas!
