Unfortunately our stay was not very pleasant, we stayed for two nights and booked dinner both nights. On the first night we tried to order certain items from the menu only to be told they were not available, the same thing happened with the wine list. On the second night we went down to dinner only to experience the same problems, we were then made aware that the hotel was closing to the general public and was going to be used to house asylum seekers for the foreseeable future this explained the unavailability of certain food and drinks , had we known this we would not have booked here we felt sorry for the staff who where trying to make things as normal as possible for the guests and were the go to for guests to vent their anger about the issues that were occurring.

I love this hotel but to ask me for a review when the UK government was allowed to book the whole place for a year, raising all of the local room prices now that three (at least) Dumfries hotels are full of completely deserving but horribly abused migrants -- I have no beef with them. It's just sad that the owners of a lovely -- in fact spectacular -- new hotel, a great place with wonderful staff, good food, and a restful ambiance, had to sell its soul to the UK government.
