Mountain ranges dominate the skyline here in Chamonix, including the Mont Blanc, culminating at 4,810 metres high. In summer, nature lovers will marvel at the host of different flora and fauna that coexists here. Rising up 3,777 metres high, the Aiguille du Midi is spectacular. A cable car takes you up into its peaks, offering unforgettable views over the Alps. Le Brévent makes for the perfect setting for climbing, skiing or hiking, particularly around its lake. Just 30 minutes away from your Chamonix hotel, go and see the stunning ice sea glacier aboard the little red sight-seeing funicular. In the ice cave, sculptures carved into the ice itself tell the story of 19th century mountain dwellers.
Mountain culture
Drawing on its collection of photographs and sound archives, the Maison de la Mémoire et du Patrimoine heritage centre plunges visitors into the town's past. Exhibitions, conferences and screenings are regularly held here. The Alpine museum sheds insight into the Chamonix Valley, the Mont Blanc, the history of mountain-climbing, and more. It encompasses over 1,700 different objects, traces of the everyday lives as experienced by 18th and 19th century inhabitants. The Musée des Cristaux, or Tairraz space, is entirely devoted to minerals. Not too far away from your hotel, the Marcel-Wibault tribute area located in the Chamonix painter's chalet, is an opportunity to discover the artist's work through his paintings, most of which depict mountain life.
